One Claim Program (OCP)

This program is open to employers currently enrolled in a group-experience-rating program. To participate in OCP, you must have a single significant claim entering your experience for the first time.  In addition to the one significant claim, you may carry up to three medical-only claims in your experience.  As the medical-only claims move out of your experience another may enter, so long as you never have more than four total claims in your experience.

Program benefits:
If you qualify and participate in the program, you will receive the following discount off your base rate:

  • 20-percent: first year in the program;
  • 15-percent: second year;
  • 10-percent: third year;
  • 5-percent: fourth year;

Participation requirements:

In your first year of participation, you must attend one, half-day, industry-specific classroom style class through BWC's Division of Safety & Hygiene. Then during any remaining years of eligibility, you must complete three hours of online classes through BWC's Safety & Hygiene Training Center

You must submit an application each year. BWC will not automatically enroll you in the program


EM capping

In this program the BWC will cap an individual employer's experience modifier (EM) to minimize the effects of a significant premium increase for employers that become penalty rated.  The EM cap will equal 100 percent of the previous year's published EM. The previous year's EM could be an individual EM or group EM if the employer was participating in a group-rating plan that year.

Participation requirements:

In the first year, employers will agree to complete a one-half day industry-specific safety class through BWC's Division of Safety & Hygiene as outlined in the Ohio Administrative Code 4123-17-03.2
Note: Employers who want to keep the EM cap for the subsequent year must complete three hours of online safety classes through the BWC website.


The Deductible Program

This program helps employers lower their premiums by offering an upfront premium discount in the form of a per claim deductible.  When you apply, choose a deductible level appropriate for your business. You will be responsible for claim costs up to the deductible level for any claim that occurs in the policy year of enrollment.   An employer can choose the following deductible levels for a corresponding up-front discount rate based on the industry/hazard group:

  • $500
  • $1,000
  • $2,500
  • $5,000
  • $10,000

The High Deductibles*

  • $25,000
  • $50,000
  • $100,000
  • $200,000

Individual-Retrospective Rating Plan

An employer participating in the individual-retrospective rating plan may earn a possible premium reduction by assuming a portion of the risk. The greater the portion of the risk assumed, the greater potential reduction in premiums.
